I have em. And they’re pretty. And the only correction I had to make to them was where I’d inadvertantly written “Ambassador” rather than “Administrator” as my position. Oops.

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004Little Shop Rock
Tuesday, October 19th, 2004So yeah, we got the show. Venue, dates, rights… the whole shebang. So now all we have to do is, like, make it happen. So, if you or anybody you know want to audition for a part in the upcoming Musoc production of Little Shop of Horrors, then let me know! (Auditions on Sunday 7 November and Monday 8 November… the show itself runs from Tuesday 22 February to Sunday 27 February – Orientation Week)
On a totally different note, when not beating his co-workers at table tennis or driving round in their Holden or Escort, Tim sends me links. Cos ICQ is good like that.
Another week
Monday, October 18th, 2004Friday ended up rocking most mightily. Thanks to all who came by Holly Road for the hastily organised party, to those who headed into Sammy’s, and then onwards to Home and Carbon. In the end a small group of us (including, strangely enough, the trombonist from the band at Sammy’s) made it through till 5.30 in the morning. Late night, drunken, and good. Special thanks to Dave on account of his help at texting all in sundry to get their selves and others to the various venues. (An aside: between Friday 5 pm and Sunday evenming, I managed to send 55 text messages. That’s just silly.)
Saturday saw a distinct lack of hangover, although generally high levels of exhaustion and a lack of any desire to really do anything. Many of us ended up at Simon’s, watching rugby and playing Game of Thrones – in a game that was called off at an early morning hour with Ben declared the winner. Of course, Ben had just received one of the biggest smackdowns that has been witnessed in the game… For those of you who care, I believe the six player expansion for the game comes out sometime this week or next, with many improvements. Should be good.
Sunday saw the mighty Putteridge High brought low once again, with a 9-4 loss to Von Zippers. But, and this I only noticed last week, we’re actually playing in division 1 at the moment, which explains the generally poor results of late. Also, we’re becoming more leet each time we play, and even though the scoreline looks like a drubbing, we put up a pretty good fight (bar a brief five minute period, with five unanswered goals scored against us…)
Speaking of Dave, he has put me onto the musical stylings of Damien Rice and Elliot Smith. I haven’t really listened to the latter very much, but am definitely enjoying Damien Rice’s songs. Highly recommended.
Tonight
Friday, October 15th, 2004There’ll be some drinking and general celebrating. I’m not sure when or where we’ll start, but I’ll definitely be at Sammy’s from 11 pm onwards.
Be there! Bring friends!
Ole!
Thursday, October 14th, 2004One of our summer school courses here at the Centre is being lectured by a guy we’re importing from Lund University, Sweden. His name is Ole Elgstrom, and he signs all his emails simply… Ole.
He needs to invest in an exclamation mark, dammit. I wonder if he’d understand if I made the suggestion to him when he gets here?
In other musings, the next person to walk into this windowless cublicle that you could probably best term my “office” and tell me that it’s 26 degrees outside, or that it’s a perfect day, or how they’re thinking about going down to the beach because they can… hmm, let’s be honest, nothing’s going to happen to them bar a mild cursing under the breath. I think I’m going to take a long lunch break once Dave manages to wake up and find his way to school.
Oh, and there is a distinct possibility of partyage this weekend as part of the upcoming global celebrations for my soon to be older self. Maybe tomorrow night, maybe Saturday, who knows. Watch this space.
News of the worst kind
Wednesday, October 13th, 2004Found out this morning that Murray Goodman, stalwart fencing coach and warmly remembered by many of us as one of the first, real coaches who took and interest and showed us how it should be done, passed away over the weekend.
As one of the driving forces behind Waimari Swords, then Blades Fencing Academy, then Christchurch Fencing Academy, Murray touched the lives, and shaped the lunges, of so many people throughout the years, myself included.
“Hooplah!” Murray, you will be missed.
The Long Promised Page Update
Tuesday, October 12th, 2004So, in a vain attempt to “up-skill” (or should I say “re-skill”) myself to a level where even contemplating making a webpage for some of the research projects we have on here at the Centre is a possibility, I’ve spent several hours coming up with this here page. And it seems pretty nice so far, just don’t go trolling around in the actuial code or nothin’, this is strictly bits and pieces html programming, spliced together from old knowledge, newly discovered programming tidbits, and Will’s awesome advice.
Still, now that I’ve actually got round to making a decent attempt at this, perhaps some others should get a move on and do up their own page, as it’s been quite some time since May ‘03.
So. New, improved, and perhaps even with more hot, hot journal action. But don’t quote me on that last bit.
